Argentina beyond tango...
Argentine tradition
The lineup for this concert includes zambas and chacareras that are part of the traditional repertoire, but also the urban music of Buenos Aires – the tango. Espírito Nativo showcases some of this variety, both in musical genres and instruments, with themes of Andean influence, but also milongas, such as Los Hermanos by Atahualpa Yupanqui, and chamamés, such as Maria Va, performed by Mercedes Sosa.
Argentine music, like the music of other countries, is not confined within its political borders. It is very common to find musical genres shared by both sides of the borders, with Argentina perhaps being the country where this has been most evident to us. Chamamé , for example, is a musical genre that has expression in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil, although in each of them it acquires slight particularities! Carnavalito is the Andean huayno. The Argentine zamba itself has roots in the Peruvian zamacueca .
