The Open Voices of Latin America – Gracias a la Vida!
– Latin American women composers –
"The Open Voices of Latin America – Thanks to Life!" was inspired by the interpretations of Mercedes Sosa. It's a concert dedicated to women composers who have marked musical history and continue to influence generations with their timeless works and their profound commitment to human and social issues. Performed by the group Espírito Nativo, the event proposes a musical journey through different musical genres, cultures, eras, and geographies of Latin America.
The repertoire includes music by visionary women such as Violeta Parra (Chile), whose work is a poetic cry for social justice and love for the land; Chabuca Granda (Peru), who transformed traditional music into a lyrical celebration of Peruvian identity; and María Elena Walsh (Argentina), whose songs enchant children and adults with messages of tenderness and social critique. Pieces by iconic female composers such as Isolina Carrillo (Cuba), Consuelo Velazquez (Mexico), and Conny Méndez (Venezuela), among others, will also be performed, whose compositions translate the spirit and soul of their countries.
Jacqueline Mercado (Mexico) – vocals, guitar.
Rui Meira (Portugal) – guitar, charango and Venezuelan cuatro.
Denys Stetsenko (Ukraine) – violin.
Iúri Oliveira (Portugal) – percussion.
